Back to overview

Has it ever happened that on a cold winter’s day you retire to the comfort of your own home, to sit under your favorite blanket, where you enjoy a hot chocolate and read a book, and these things made you feel fulfilled? Then, you experienced what is called “Hygge”, without realizing it. “Hygge” is a term used in Denmark to define a way of celebrating the little pleasures of life.

How is the “Hygge” stream transposed into the interior design?

The answer is simple. It is transposed into everything associated with comfort: a soft rug, a fluffy blanket, warm light, the sound of the fireplace, etc. It’s about those experiences that give you a good mood. Hygge stream harmoniously combines rustic elements with minimalist ones. As a style of arrangement, it stands out for its simplicity: it is extremely airy, clean, without too many fireworks.

Light is extremely important in this regard. The windows are large, the walls are white, and the light accents are abundant. We choose wood furniture in light shades, and the color palette, restricted. All of these elements visually open up space and at the same time effectively reflect sunlight.

What elements do we include in a Hygge interior?

Relaxation corner

The Danes call him Hyggerkrog. It is imperative that you include a relaxing space in your Hygge set-up. It can be a corner of a room where you put a lazy-bag and set it up for reading, a window where you can retire to meditate, or a sofa where you can enjoy your hot chocolate. You can be as creative as you want from this point of view.

Wooden furniture

Wooden furniture makes us feel closer to nature. Danes love wooden furniture pieces, but also accessories that bring them to nature: plants, decorations made of wood, cones, etc.

Fireplace

We are certainly talking about a central piece of this current. Nothing is more pleasant than a frigid evening spent in front of the fireplace. The fireplace can be part of the relaxation corner. If you are staying in the apartment and you want this item inside the house, you can always opt for an electric fireplace or an area that just mimics a fireplace, where you can place many candles.

Candles

Another element specific to the Hygge stream is the scented candles. Our recommendation is to light them in the evening because their light will give you a deep relaxation state. However, to avoid dangerous situations, don’t use them before sleep and do not leave them unattended while performing various other activities.

Decorative pillows and blankets

To create a warm and welcoming environment at home, do not hesitate to opt for accessories such as decorative pillows and fluffy blankets. It offers an intimate atmosphere, they are extremely comfortable and will give you well-being.

Ceramics and porcelain

It combines design elements with functionality. Opt for a chic coffee table, a special flower vase, a beautiful porcelain kettle and a mug of which you enjoy eating hot drinks.

A hygge style home goes hand in hand with items of clothing where you feel comfortable and activities that bring you happiness.
